Jason Yapp is a leading expert on climate finance, climate friendly agriculture, renewable energy, and energy efficiency and private sector development with 20 years of experience working with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the Asian Development Bank (ADB), and the World Resources Institute (WRI) in Africa (Ghana, Nigeria, Sierra Leone) and Asia (Malaysia, Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Timor-Leste).

Jason is Transcarbon’s Senior Consultant on Climate Finance, Solar Energy, Agriculture, and Biotechnologies since early 2014. As Low-Carbon Technologies Expert on the UNDP Consultancy Roster for Asia Pacific, CIS and Europe, and Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership (REEEP), he is experienced in the strategic development and management of multi-million dollar projects, having demonstrated solid leadership and mentoring skills. As Director for Eden Environmental Consulting, he currently provides technical and financial consultancy to international implementing agencies, corporations, small businesses, and the public sector, as well as advice to governments on their environmental regulations and policies. As Green Climate Fund (GCF) Readiness Expert and Project Development Specialist for various projects of the United Nations Development Programme, Global Environment Facility (UNDP-GEF) in Asia and Africa, and as Private Sector Development Specialist for the ADB Bioenergy Project and Director for Business Development of AES (US Utility), Jason has extensive experience in leveraging private sector resources, assessing local and country needs using participatory approach, and developing location-specific feasibility studies, including local resource assessments (biomass, water, inputs). He conducted value chain analysis, financial and technology due diligence (TDD) on low- carbon technologies, as well as Environmental and Social Impact Assessment.

He obtained his Doctorate (Ph.D.) and Bachelor’s (B.Sc. Hons.) degree in Agriculture from the University of Reading (United Kingdom), and holds Certificates in Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) from the University of Wisconsin (United States of America), ‘End User Appliance Metering Methodology’ from Enertech (France), and in Renewable Energy Awareness from Hartpury College (United Kingdom).

Jason is a Member of International Biochar Institute (United Kingdom) and of the Association of Environmental Consultants and Companies of Malaysia.

He is a citizen of Malaysia, resident in the United Kingdom, a native Chinese speaker, also fluent in Malay and English.
