Matt Williamson is an expert analyst on policy and programs related to climate change, renewable energy, energy efficiency, and other environmental issues, particularly regarding market-based solutions. He is the author of “Auctions Not Words” in Environmental Finance, and “Energy Efficiency in Semiconductor Manufacturing: A Tool for Cost Savings and Pollution Prevention”.

Matt has 20 years of professional experience during which he founded and served as lead manager of business development and execution on client engagements, sourced capital for project developers, provided advice on suitable structures and terms for project investments, structured and marketed environmental commodity transactions on behalf of developers and owners, originated transactions on behalf of traders and “natural shorts”, originated, structured, and transacted environmental market instruments, financially advised in building and managing portfolios of environmental assets, developed public policy programs implementing cap and trade mechanisms, energy efficiency improvements and clean technology development, and managed teams of market professionals addressing carbon, renewable energy and other pollutants through cap and trade and related market mechanisms.

Currently, Matt serves as Senior Consultant on Finance and Environmental Market Instruments for Transcarbon International and is the Head of the Renewables and Carbon Finance Division at Sparq Energy Advisors, LLC, based in New York City.

Matt holds a Master of Business Administration degree from INSEAD (France), a Master of International Affairs and Environmental Policy Studies degree from Columbia University (United States of America) and Bachelor of Arts degree in Politics, as well as a Certificate in East Asian Studies from Princeton University (United States of America).

He is a United States citizen, native English speaker, fluent in Mandarin Chinese, and with an intermediate knowledge of French.
