Florence Wambugu is a Project Management Professional with over 15 years working in Energy Projects from inception to operational stages efficiently monitoring and evaluating projects whilst balancing stakeholder interests, addressing changing needs and managing dynamics of change, in addition to gender issues. Florence has worked in the government and private sector consulting on various energy aspects.

Florence joined Transcarbon in 2014 as Senior Consultant on Climate Change and Gender Balance, Climate Finance, and Energy. Additionally, she founded and works as a Consultant for an Association to generate local Green Standards for the building industry in Kenya, in the field of Renewable Energy. Further she has been involved in drafting of the National Policy on Climate Finance and Emissions Trading, Country National Energy policy and the Climate Change Bill among others. She is also an integral Member of the Kenya Climate Change Working Group (KCCWG), Energy Thematic Group. She has also been involved in community sensitization forums on climate change and disaster risk reduction. She has worked in multicultural environments for the last 15 years, successfully building networks, partnerships and bridges, successfully managing projects of varying sizes and complexities.

She has been a facilitator for the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) on Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction, Developed an Energy Management Manual for Hotel Operators covering Energy efficiency and Renewable Energy technologies used in hotels and Restaurants (Mauritius). Involved in drafting of the National Policy on Climate Finance and Emissions Trading, Country National Energy policy, Climate Change Bill. Undertook Load Profiling for vegetable farms to be able to establish capacity for Renewable Energy required. Researcher for Kenya Climate Change Working Group-Energy thematic Group. Involved in the Proposed Biogas Plant in Dagoretti Slaughter Houses, Lusaka Sustainable Energy Project (A large scale VER-project with savings of 150,000 tonnes of CO2 annually). Undertook pre-feasibility study for the Dandora Landfill Gas Project to assess capability of landfill. Undertook feasibility studies and full environmental impact assessment for a proposed Castaoil Ethanol Project and Wind Power Project. Conducted an assessment of the viability of replacing kerosene lanterns with suitable solar lanterns. Involved in developing marketing strategy and plan for introducing the concept of performance based contracting for achieving energy savings. Consultant for agro-forestry research project for the Four for One (Awarded by Total Eco Challenge).

Florence holds a Master’s degree in Environmental and Energy Management (M.E.E.M.) and a Master’s degree in Business Administration (M.B.A.) from the University of Twente (The Netherlands) and a Bachelor’s of Science in Civil Engineering degree (B.Sc.) from the University of Nairobi (Kenya).

She is a national of Kenya, native speaker and fluent in Kiswahili, Kikuyu, and English.
