Niroj Mohanty has over 12 years of advisory, auditing, business development, and project management experience in the fields of natural resources, climate change mitigation and adaptation, carbon finance, and clean technologies. He has been involved in the development of the carbon markets and the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) from the start, including in international negotiations on the Kyoto Protocol. Most notably, he was a Member of the United Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Methodologies Panel (Meth Panel) for one year and four months. His association with UNFCCC and carbon market institutions has helped him consolidate a strong ability to understand the CDM modalities, procedures, and project cycles. Also, he has successfully facilitated numerous greenhouse gas trades worth of millions of dollars, and developed numerous CDM projects from beginning to the end.

Niroj currently serves Transcarbon as Senior Consultant with special focus on Biomass, Biogas, Land Use, and Transportation and as Technology Expert Team Leader for the Asia-Pacific region. Additionally, he leads the CoreCarbonX team in India. Previously, he worked as Associate Vice President at CantorCO2e and as a Consultant for PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), among others positions he held.

Throughout his career, he has carried out more than 100 projects of varied nature involving climate financing across 8 countries. Managing these projects has given him wider exposure to the development of climate change mitigation and adaptation projects, stakeholder concerns, credits in the carbon market, sustainability component in projects, transparency, governance, and integrity issues. Among other assignments, he was responsible for improved biomass cook stoves and methane avoidance from the rice field Programme of Activities (PoA) in Myanmar, Cambodia, and Laos. Because these countries have tremendous potential for emission reduction, Niroj has lately been engaged in capacity development activities for various stakeholders in these countries. In working closely with clients, partners and project team, he has demonstrated his ability to lead and execute projects involving multiple stakeholders from an inter-disciplinary approach. Additionally, Niroj has a solid track record of experience in the power, steel, and textile industry segments.

Niroj holds Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) degree and a Post Graduate Diploma in Industrial Safety and Environmental Management from NITIE, Mumbai (India), as well as a Bachelor’s of Textile Technology (B.Sc.) degree from ITT Choudwar, Utkal University (India).

He is a citizen of India, is a native Oriya speaker, and also fluent in Hindi and English.
